BATAVIA — Genesee County residents who are eligible for Medicare open enrollment may want to attend one of the vendors taking place in November in the county, a county official said.
“Medicare has their open enrollment from the 1st of November to the middle of December. There are 10,000 eligible Medicare residents in Genesee County who all have the opportunity to enroll or re-enroll or find a new provider for that Medicaid supplement,” Legislature Chairwoman Rochelle Stein said during Wednesday evening’s Legislature meeting. “Ten thousand cannot be served by two people in our Office for the Aging staff. Although they do take calls, they do set aside appointments, they have collectively arranged for vendor fairs in four different parts of our county.”
One of the four fairs has already taken place, but there are fairs coming up from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on three other days — Wednesday in Bethany Town Hall, 105150 Bethany Center Rd. in East Bethany; Nov. 15 at the Darien Center Fire Hall, 10537 Alleghany Rd. in Darien Center; and Nov. 29 at First United Methodist Church of Batavia, 8221 Lewiston Rd., Batavia.
“The supplemental insurance providers are there and they have time to talk to our residents,” Stein said. “If your residents have any questions or comments, complaints, please direct them to the vendor fairs.”
A flyer for the fairs says Medicare Advantage plans will be there to assist residents in understanding changes for 2023 and to sign them up if they wish to choose a different plan or company. OFA Medicare specialists from the OFA will be there to answer residents’ questions and give them unbiased information. A representative from EPIC, the New York State Prescription Assistance Program, will be at the Nov. 29 fair in Batavia.
“Each and every person in our community of those 10,000 that are eligible are important and it is important that they get the right supplemental insurance to meet their own individual needs,” she said. “This is the most important time of the year for that fragile population that we have. Please encourage them to attend one of these fairs.”
