Gas Price Update: Batavia Prices Plunge Ahead Of Thanksgiving

BATAVIA, IL — Good news awaits Batavia residents getting ready to hit the road ahead of Thanksgiving: Gas prices are falling.

As of Monday, the average price for a gallon of gas in Illinois was $4.00 — that’s down 16 cents from a week ago and 26 cents from a month ago, according to AAA.

At around $3.91 per gallon in Kane County, gas prices were slightly below the state average. Nationally, the price per gallon of gas remains well below $4 for an average of $3.66 Monday.

Despite prices being lower than in recent weeks, the Thanksgiving national average is the highest since AAA started keeping records in 2000, officials said.

“The national average has fallen sharply since the June peak of nearly $5.02,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson, said in a statement. “But this Thanksgiving will be about 20 cents higher than a year ago, and a dollar more per gallon than a pre-pandemic 2019. However, we can be thankful that gas prices are moving in the right direction for now.”

According to GasBuddy, the cheapest gas in Batavia is selling for $3.64 per gallon at Walmart, 885 N. Randall Road. Here is what other stations around town are charging:

  • Speedway, 1495 E. Wilson St.: $3.88 per gallon

  • Shell, 108 N. Batavia Ave.: $3.89 per gallon
